HISTORY AND BACKGROUND
During March 1991 the Premier Joan Kirner announced the allocation of $1.2 million provided from the Urban Land Authority Infrastructure Fund for the establishment of four pilot service co-ordination and integration projects located on or near Urban Land Authority Estates in rapidly growing outer urban areas.
Merinda Park Learning and Community Centre was one of these pilot programs and commenced operation in June 1992.
The broad aim of the Service Co-Ordination and Integration Project (SCIP) was to establish specific projects in key growth areas which address priority service planning and delivery issues in the community in innovative and imaginative ways. A common theme of the projects was the emphasis on finding effective solutions to community needs and problems through a partnership of State Government, Local Government and Local Communities.
The project operated for a period of 2.5 years after which time Merinda Park Learning and Community Centre In. was established and continued the delivery of family support, educational and vocational training, recreational and personal development activities to the community.
